Inspiration from Yosemite, Yellowstone and Acadia national parks. The landscape should include coniferous trees and bushes, a few deciduous trees interspersed, large rocks and wildflowers (perennials) to fill in the base. The community should have a natural, rather than manicured look and feel. A less “cookie cutter” approach where the use of plants/trees are similar, but the application to each house and area is unique.
Research on trees and plants that do well in Zone 7, and reviewing the vegetation in the inspirational National Parks, a list of trees, bushes and plants (different textures, heights, colors) was developed to create this natural “outdoorsy” atmosphere (many of which attract birds, bees, and butterflies).
